Looking Back: 6 Months of Living Tiny

Just like that, six months have absolutely flown by and all of a sudden we couldn't imagine living anywhere else except our Tiny House.  Over this course of time, there have been a comical amount of obstacles, yet somehow Adventure Abode truly became our home.  We have not posted to our blog nearly as frequently as we would like to, so we will use this post to share what it has been like adjusting to the Tiny lifestyle.

Our new outdoor setup in our new parking space at The Camp Bend

We have shared a bit about our struggles upon first moving to Bend in the middle of winter, having never slept a night in our home prior.  Our seemingly insurmountable list of issues included leaking water and gas pipes, a frozen water heater, water-logged countertops, and plenty of other minor issues which required repairs and attention.  As a result, I became pretty capable of fixing things, acquired a couple more tools, and got the opportunity to learn how our house works inside and out.  Although this experience was far from convenient, it was valuable to learn from and ultimately helped us feel comfortable in our own home.

Finding the proper place for everything was key to keeping our home from feeling cluttered

Once everything was repaired, our house started functioning like a well oiled machine, just in time for Spring.  We were then able to turn our focus towards creating an outdoor space that we looked forward to spending time in during the warmer months, finding proper spaces to store everything, and simply enjoying our home.  We even got the chance to host a handful of guests (not all at the same time of course).

When we designed our home, making it a space that could be used for hosting or entertaining was of critical importance.  In these past six months we have entertained as many as seven people for wine and game nights or BBQ's, and slept up to four people, utilizing both our sleeping space in the loft and the fold-down couch.  Admittedly, it can feel a bit crowded at times, especially with the loft ladder set up, but the space does work as intended.  When the weather is as nice as it has been recently in Bend, it is always fun to take the party outside as well.

Enjoying the fire pit with friends and beautiful sunset views over the Cascade Mountains

Speaking of Bend, living here has been an absolute dream.  The mountains, lakes, rivers, and canyons have provided endless opportunities for adventure.  When we opt to stay in town, we feel like we have barely scratched the surface of exploring the countless breweries, restaurants, and festivals.  Lauren has enjoyed the modern luxuries of working at a brand new hospital tower, while I have seen a lot of opportunity arise for my photography career here, with so many like-minded people around and no lack of beautiful scenery.

Hopefully it will not be so long before the next blog post, but we hope you guys have enjoyed following along as much as we have enjoyed sharing our experiences.

Our fold down couch has been a favorite among guests that prefer not to climb up to the loft!
